Just watched an interesting video by Dr. Nick (@thefittestdoc) where he explains that we don’t really see reality as it is; instead, we see our brain’s interpretation of it. He demonstrated this by playing a chant four times in his presentation. Surprisingly, even though the chants sounded the same, each one was actually different.
This happens because our brains don’t just passively receive information; they actively shape what we perceive based on past experiences and expectations. This can be even more pronounced in people with lower IQs, who might not process subtle differences as efficiently, leading to a more uniform perception despite variations in the actual input.
This phenomenon also sheds light on why people often only hear what they want to hear. Our brains filter and interpret sounds based on what we expect or believe is true, not necessarily what is actually being said.
